Ego Boost

A most spectacular thing happened just a few days ago. It was in English class, while we were discussing syllogisms and epethymemes, which are essentially a string of logic that leads to an inevitable conclusion. For example:

Humans are mortal.

Socrates is human

Therefore, Socrates is mortal.

The whole is a syllogism, while the bottom two are epethymemes. Anyway, we were discussing how these can lead to faulty arguments, and my teacher came up with this example:

[Women are wise](this was unstated, and therefore the brackets)

Shawna is a woman.

Therefore, Shawna is wise.

And he stood there, waiting. No one spoke up to argue, even after he turned to me and said “Lucky you.”

I must say, there is no greater ego boost than people refusing to argue a statement such as that.
